Director of Finance

Established manufacturer of cosmetics and personal care items is seeking a Director of Finance who will make high-level decisions regarding business health and will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the manufacturing facility, providing strategic financial leadership to optimize company performance. This role will be highly involved in the operations of the business and will include the development of financial models, budgeting, month end close and financial reporting, internal control implementation, and analyzing performance to support the company’s operational and strategic goals.

The Director of Finance will:

  • Lead and manage the finance team
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to optimize cash flow, reduce costs, and improve profitability for the manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop long-term business strategies and growth plans, providing financial insights and recommendations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process for the manufacturing division, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and targets.
  • Develop financial forecasts based on production schedules, capacity, and market trends, while maintaining flexibility to adjust to changes in the business environment.
  • Oversee cost analysis and margin improvement projects to enhance financial performance.

Cash Flow and Working Capital Management:

  • Monitor cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations, including overseeing accounts receivable and payable.
  • Develop strategies to improve working capital efficiency, including inventory management and supplier payment terms.

Cost Management and Efficiency:

  • Collaborate with the operations team to identify cost-saving opportunities in manufacturing processes, production efficiencies, and waste reduction.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving cost structures and margins.
  • Oversee cost allocation and ensure proper overhead management across departments and manufacturing lines.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including tax laws, financial reporting standards, and labor laws specific to manufacturing.
  • Identify potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks, including managing foreign exchange risk, commodity price fluctuations, and changes in labor costs.

Financial Systems and Technology:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and technology that support financial operations in the manufacturing environment.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements in systems and processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and visibility of financial data.

Team Development and Mentorship:

  • Foster a high-performance culture by training and mentoring finance team members.
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration between finance and operations teams to align financial objectives with production goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. A Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration (MBA) or CPA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing cost structures, inventory costing and management, and capital expenditure planning.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software, ERP systems (e.g. Alere), and Excel.
